"Meanwhile, Australian Shaun Tan has taken the award for Best Animated Short for The Lost Thing.

"To Perth and Melbourne, this one's for you too," Tan said in his acceptance speech"

"Wow, this is quite surreal," he said on stage.

"Our film is about a creature that doesn't get any attention so this is quite ironic."
